Many people have asked lately about our chickens! So, I figured I would give a little update! They are growing, growing, growing! We have 1 rooster for sure but there are a couple other ones that are looking like they could be a rooster also. If so, we may have trouble on our hands. The one that we know for sure is a rooster is very much "king" of the coop.
Wayne did a lot of research on the Internet before he put the coop together. He built the pin from a 10 by 10 dog kennel. It is 6 feet high and he put a tin roof on it. We had a very large old dog house that he attached and built nesting boxes on the side. The boxes can be open from outside the pin to get the eggs. Very clever if I must say so myself! The feeders are tubes that you fill from the top and it keeps them happy for a long time. They get table scraps each day and their favorite is any kind of bread!

I have been told that they will not start laying eggs until they are about 6 months. So, we wait patiently!
Rascal (bird dog) + 8 chickens = 24/7 craziness! Rascal is by the chickens all day long. Wayne says he needs to put some water out there for Rascal b/c he wears himself out pacing their home. Hopefully they will get use to each other and eventually Rascal will take a break :o)
